Mother’s Day is a day to reflect and memorialize a personal connection to your mother, mother figure, friends that are rocking that mom life!
Now I know like any other celebration everyone can’t share the honoring for various of reasons and it is my prayer that in some way God has given you strength if you have loss your mother and or I pray that God has led you to a mother figure where you feel no lack!
Last week I had a pre Mother’s Day Celebration for Mother and adult child(ren) to enjoy hanging out and forgetting about everyday responsibilities for just a second, like your own children, spouses, household duties, etc. I asked the question when is the last time you really hung out with your momma, just you and her!!!
For all the gals who came out with their momma and or momma friends I really hope you all enjoyed yourself!! I cant wait for you to see what’s in store for next year!!! If you missed it, there’s some shots through this read and here’s the link for some photos of our “Motherly Love” event and a super super special thanks to our vendors who made this event a success!!!!

Well!!
According to Oxford Language the definition for mother is:
- Bring up (a child) with care and affection.
- Give birth to
If I was to break down the definition of a mother it would definitely be more than two definitions. Since this is my blog lol here I would like to acronym mother for my own personal thought on what a mother is!!

M is for motivating, I couldn’t dare tell you the countless, unnumbered amount of times my mother has motivated me when I didn’t feel like I could do it, times I felt like “The little engine that could” it was always because of my mother telling me I could do it. There is a quote that I always quote from my mother always telling me this while growing up “When there is a will, there is a way” whenever things get difficult or seems unsolvable I always shout like my Mommie says “When there is a will, there is a way!” And what’s soo crazy every time I chant that phrase, things always turn out how I was seeking, which again then motivated and motivates me to believe in whatever I’m doing!
O is for overseer, I’m sure many can relate to this, NOOOOOOOOO MATTER HOW OLD YOU GET, YOUR MOMMA IS ALWAYS YOUR MOMMA LOL, she will always tell you what to do, how to do it, don’t do that, why you doing this, or going there lol. As a child it’s understandable that your parents, your mother is honestly your supervisor in life, to lead you and guide you, train you and show you the way for this life as you grow!! As a child it’s understandable AND annoying at times, especially when your trying to grow and find your on path, but it’s a mothers job and her nature to be an overseer for something she birth into this world!!! What’s even funnier is when your an adult, some mothers just tell you straight up and or they get clever on how to tell you what to do!! My mother is hilarious on how she tells my brother and I, she don’t agree lol ( I can’t write that out because I can’t let her know I know her methods lolol), My mother in love even does the same lolol, I love it lol, XOXO MA’S!!
T is for tough love, heeeeyy remember when I said O is for Overseer!!! YEAH about that, the definition of Overseer is – Supervisor! I don’t know about you, but in my history of working a job, I’ve had to have a sit down, you got to get it together talks with the boss!! Sometimes we go through life and a lot of times if you are not surround by a lot of solid people, friends and or if your a private person and only your mom gets that soul piece of you, whatever the case may be because no one is the same! One thing I do know, if your blessed to have a relationship with a woman who’s your mother or mother figure they are going to tell you what you don’t, but need to hear!! I don’t know about others, speaking for myself when you are one who wants to grow and be your best self, there should be no problem in taking real talk counsel from those you know mean you no harm and want the best from you… I know a lot of folk who have stopped talking to their mother, mad at them for telling them the truth!! Don’t be my friend and tell me lol, if she’s right I’m always one to say she’s right lol but it almost baffles my mind how folk cant take truth!! Truth is tough and it hurts, BUT truth is what we need!!! A mother’s job is to help led you!! And if she thinks you are about to and or are drowning, shouldn’t she at least throw the rope to help you???? It’s up to you if you grab the rope or not but shouldn’t she at least try?? Better yet visualize this!! If you seen a person drowning would you just stand there and watch? Or would you at least try to help??? If we dismiss the thought of an actual visible drowning, we have a lot of people drowning mentally and spiritually because you can’t say nothing to them and its even worse when a mother can’t even throw the rope in and tell you what you need to hear and help you!! (This is going in a whole nother direction lol), tough love is love!
“Exodus 20:12 Honour thy Father and thy Mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”
H is for healing, I mean do I need to say more, a mothers love is like her kiss on your little boo boo, she just makes things all better. If you know, you know!!!

E is for example, I know everyone ain’t a bible believer but I AM OKKKKKK lol!!! But the reason I choose E, is because God placed women on this earth to be a helpmate to her husband and to multiply which means to birth children into this world and also care for them, so when a woman is blessed to birth a child(ren) into this world it is an example of what God wanted us to do and be!! The second reason I choose example for E is because one thing for certain, two things for sure, no matter what you do or where you go in life, no matter how disappointed you mom can be in you, a mothers love for her child is soo forgiving and nurturing, you could have hurt your mother countless times with your life choices and momma is still there, to cheer you on, cheering that “Little engine that could”, a mothers faith for her child is so strong and it resembles the scripture “Now faith is the evidence of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” , I don’t know no faith stronger than a mothers!!!! Last but not least the other reason I choose example for E is because a real mother’s love is an example of the love of Christ, always forgiving without limitation, a mothers love is kind, honest, real , protecting , did I say forgiving??? Lol the Bible says God instructs us to forgive 70 times 7 which in definition means limitlessly, I know I have let my mom down many of times and her love has never changed, and i think that is the most beautiful thing that I can come to my mother even in shame, broken, etc. I know I can come to her fithly like the prodigal son because I know she forgives me without her even saying it and when I come to her there will be nothing but love, maybe even a little tough love, but that’s love and its all in love, and that is the example of Jesus Christ. LOVE!!
R is for reliable, I think with everything that has been broken down above, we can say that outside of momma coming in the clutch for when we need some money, a ride, some advice when i cant talk to anyone else, need some food or groceries, a shoulder to cry, a person to share the good news , a person to help you think through situations and help you make decisions. My mother is one of my safe places, I know without a shadow of a doubt I can rely on my momma!!! When I’m happy mad or sad I’m calling my momma lol!!
I don’t know if I defined better than Oxford Language the definition of Mother but my momma thinks I did so there lololol!!! All in all I’m so thankful and blessed to say the acronyms defined above are the verbs, adjectives and nouns of my mother Mary Ann Sanders, I would not be half the woman I am without her being those things above and more!!! My goal in life will always be to give her, her flowers and the person who raised us both my grandmother and her mother, Lena Mae Sanders, the path she set for her family for greatness is unmatched and I wish she was here still to see the woman I am becoming.
Then I married my wonderful husband and gained my Mother in Love, I don’t like Mother in Law, for me it just don’t fit because, she loves me, she covers me, cares for me and she will do be me just like she birthed me herself, I feel no lack in just the short 6 years I have been in her presence!!! It’s the most beautiful thing to me to see how she loves as a mother to my husband, everything I mentioned above on the definition of a Mother, she’s that as well!!! Everyone don’t have great Mother in Law/ Daughter in Law relationship, I’m sooo BLESSED to say I do!!! Sooo Happy Mothers Day to my moms Lena Mae Sanders, Mary Ann Sanders & Delores Joann Burel!!

And my bonus moms because it takes a village: My Aunt Amy Francis, Lillian Ross,(My God Mother) all of my aunts, Jo-Ann Lipford Sanders, Juanita Ray, Monique Williams, Gwen Dumas Croft, Flora Irby, Thomasine Williams, (I’ll stop I’ve been blessed to have so many mother figures in my life, I dont want to miss anyone, so here’s a few just to name💕
With Love,
BridgetLena’
